Save a Whale, Hug a Tree, Don't Trash the 'Nati!
The Planeteers are a group of environmentally concerned students who promote environmentally friendly practices at Roger Bacon High School. This group has pioneered an extensive recycling, repurposing, and composting initiative to help reduce the amount of waste generated on campus. Currently, we coordinate paper and plastic recycling as well as terracycling. This year, the Planeteers are investigating making RB a "Zero Waste" school. In the spirit of
St. Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Ecology, the Planeteers develop a sense of environmental responsibility among the community of Roger Bacon.
Currently at RB we are involved in the following stewardship projects.
1. Composting (over 1600 pounds this year)
2. Plastic recycling (over 2100 pounds this year)
3. Paper recycling (6.68 tons this year)
4. Battery recycling (over 100 pounds)
5. Small electronics recycling (over 50 pounds)
6. Terracycle program (Lots of stuff!)
This year we also recycled 6279 pounds of phone books as part of the Cincinnati Bell/Rumpke Phone Book Recycle Challenge!
